Once upon a time, twenty
eight years ago, my fairy tale began. At the tender age of
fourteen, I began working in a resale shop in Corbin,
Kentucky. I worked for trade in order to have name brand
clothing. As I look back, I realize that the owner was
training me for my future profession. She was a very wise
woman. She saw in me characteristics I did not know I had.
Throughout the years, I often returned to that sweet little
shop. I developed a close relationship with her and her
family. She was the best mentor I could ever have. After
twenty years of business, that dear shop closed.
When I had my first child, a daughter, I knew from
experience that I needed to shop in resale shops in order to
stay within my budget. In the back of my mind, I knew I
wanted to open a shop of my own. I gave birth to my second
child, a son. Having a young child at home made it
impossible to open a shop. To solve that problem, I
developed a home-based business. When my son was 3 months
old, that business outgrew my home. I fulfilled my life-long
dream by opening a shop on William Blount Drive. After three
years, the 1600 square foot space was not large enough to
hold my growing business.
I moved from that small space to a shop on Montvale Road.
This historical building once housed Huff’s Grocery and Gas
Station. It was perfect for a resale shop. I even
incorporated tanning beds into my store. Business was great,
but once the city started discussing the widening of
Montvale, I began looking for a new home for my shop. A
space in Midland Plaza filled that need. I have been in
business a total of 9 years. I finally have the shop I
envisioned twenty eight years ago.
I have three children, one grandchild, and one on the way.
This is not the end of my fairy tale...only the end of the
beginning.
With the economy the way it is, resale shops are the way to
go. At the Nearly New Shop, I offer quality items at
affordable prices. It is hard to find tanning packages that
